I wanted to keep the menu simple, but making sure to cover all the courses. I have found The best recipes for a classic Thanksgiving Day spread. Welcome to With a Side of Thriftiness’ Thanksgiving Banquet!
Here’s what we are serving for an all around tasty meal:
Appetizer: Sweet Potato Casserole Bites. No dinner is complete with out an appetizer! Try your hand at this creative kabob-like recipe. This will surely intrigue your guests and have them carving the full on sweet potato casserole.
Signature Drink: Thanksgiving Cocktail. Ok, this is a little on the fancy side. But, why not serve a signature drink? Many large events feature this as a way to help cut back on costs on having to have a variety of alcohol and non-alcoholic drinks for guests. A signature cocktail will take the place of you having to buy tons of alcohol for your event.
Main Course: Roasted Turkey (+ Gravy) with out question is being served at most Thanksgiving day meals. Even if hosts are not a fan of turkey (or maybe allergic to the same), most will still serve turkey along with another meat selection. I cannot remember a Thanksgiving with out a turkey!
Sides: There are so many possibilities when it comes to the sides you serve. I found the most classic Thanksgiving sides that will sure to be a hit, check them out:
- Gratitude Rolls - Instead of serving plain dinner rolls, try this gratitude recipe!
- Dressing - Or, stuffing as some may call it. What is a turkey without stuffing?
- Cranberry Sauce - Although this may not be a crowd favorite, it sure is a staple for any Thanksgiving meal.
- Sweet Potato Casserole - Classic! The more marshmallows, the better.
- Mashed Potatoes - An optional side, but I like to serve it to accompany the turkey gravy
- Green Bean Casserole - Another Classic! What can I say, you can’t go wrong with this dish.
- Broccoli Macaroni and Cheese - The kiddos will appreciate a cheesy option, especially if you have picky eaters!
Desserts: All hail the Pumpkin Pie! Just don’t forget the cool whip. If you want to get creative and have TWO pumpkin desserts, try a Pumpkin Roll. These can easily be made prior to your event day. And for all those who are not fond of pumpkin, Apple Crisp to the rescue. Lastly, if you are like me, you like to cater to the kids. Make these adorable kid-friendly desserts before the big day: Pilgrim Hat Cookies and TeePee Cupcakes.
The grand finale, I always like to have a snack on hand. I know everyone will be STUFFED after dinner. But, for our Thanksgiving Day gatherings, they tend to last most of the day. If your family lingers after dinner to watch football or play board games afterward, make a Thanksgiving Snack Mix.
That’s it! I think I have covered all the bases. The above mentioned recipes are the best that the blog-o-sphere has to offer, gathered just for you! If you are hosting Thanksgiving Day this year, let me know what you’ll be making. I’m curious to know if any of the above classics have made your menu!
